Intro to Garment Sewing Camp, Ages 12-16 This camp is designed for those older kids who have some sewing background and want to begin sewing clothes. The projects are simple and something that can be completed during camp. We will be focusing more on patterns, fabric & sewing and less on campy stuff. You know if your child is game for this! The following skills will be learned:
- Sewing pattern anatomy and translation
- Fabric selection, layout, cutting
- Transferring pattern markings to fabric
- Knit fabric techniques for the tee, casings and drawstrings for dress or romper
- The best seams with intro to the serger
- Machine hemming
Campers may choose to sew one of the following McCall’s “Learn to Sew for Fun” patterns:
M7755 Romper or Jumpsuit
M7515 Knit tee-shirt or dress and shorts
Prerequisite: Campers must have either taken a “learn to sew camp” or class series here with me or be able to independently (mostly!) thread and operate a sewing machine, sew a straight seam, concentrate, follow directions and work safely. Private lessons are offered for accelerated learning. Read more here. Email or call 360-896-7206 to arrange a time.
Garment camp is limited to four students so your camper gets lots of one-on-one instruction.
Each day we will break for a snack, and a walk Meems the doxie to the nearby park, weather permitting.
Bring your machine or use one of ours. A supplies list will be emailed to you two weeks before camp starts. If you prefer to save time, we offer camp kits with all the supplies and fabric needed for $45. Please enter pattern number and fabric color/design preferences in comments section of your shopping cart.
