Learn to Fit and Sew Jeans
Jeans are fun to sew when you have a system. Learn how to get the look and fit you want, to make your comfiest pair.
We have all the sizes sewn up from two very different jeans patterns (the Workroom Social Claryville Jean and McCall’s 5894), so you can try them on and have a good launch pad. We will fit from there.
Some students will tissue-fit like any pant and some will do most of the fitting in fabric.
You’ll learn to sew jeans from start to finish, including jeans details and how they go together, plus seam options—flat-felled or mock flat-felled, all the jeans pockets, traditional jeans fly zipper as well as a shortcut, threads and techniques for topstitching, waistbands, belt carriers, button, buttonholes and rivets. Learn to effectively shorten a metal zipper and use an industrial press to perfectly set rivets and tack buttons.
See samples of jeans in many fabrics and styles, bootcut to boyfriend to skinny, and learn about fabric selection, preshrinking and notions needed. Whether your figure type is full, petite or curvy, we will focus on fitting your body.
Anyone with strong intermediate sewing skills can sew great jeans. Some sewing homework will be assigned after each class.
Four 5-hour sessions, $295, includes rivets and tack buttons.
Mondays, June 8, 15, 22, 29, 2020, 1–6pm (with sewing homework between classes)

“This was an amazing, educational, and motivating class. I took away knowledge and confidence to make my own jeans that fit better than RTW and, in my opinion, look better than RTW.
“I love, love, love my new jeans. They are more comfortable and look better than any other pain of jeans that I own. Fabulous class!”
